Welcome!

Welcome to our teaching and learning webpage!

Over the last two years our district has worked explicitly on becoming a model PLC school district.  This work ensures that all students are provided high levels of instruction and will have their needs met while attending Park View.  During the first year of our work we paid specific attention to English Language Arts and worked to make sure our curricular
framework was vertically aligned across the district. Additionally, a literacy framework was developed to ensure consistent instructional approaches will be employed in all of our classrooms.  As we move into the 2019-2020 school year, we will begin using new instructional materials in all of our classrooms Pre-K-Fifth grade.

Also, this year a Mathematics Task Force has been established to study best practice when teaching math to all of our students.  This group will be asked to formulate an instructional framework for use during the 2020-2021 school year. Further, our instructional teams will review the Mathematics standards and will establish a curricular framework that is aligned across all grades in the district.  Once this work is completed, the district will then begin the process of piloting instructional materials and providing explicit professional development to all staff to further promote continuity in learning experiences for all students in the district.

Additionally, the district will be spending considerable time working to refine and develop assessment practices to help us better understand the learning needs of each individual student.  Teams will be asked to employ common formative and summative assessment practices throughout the year. The use of these assessments will directly align with extension and intervention services we provide to students.

Lastly, the district has begun a partnership with Purdue University to refine our process of providing enrichment support to students.  Our work with Dr. Marcia Gentry and her team last school year and continued throughout the summer. Teachers were provided with explicit training in differentiation, meeting the needs of gifted students and curriculum compacting.  This work will continue throughout the year with five additional training sessions being provided to all Morton Grove staff.

On a personal note, I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to work with the amazing community at Park View.  I look forward to another successful year and to continuing to serve the students, staff and community of Morton Grove.
